Blossom of Young Artistss


The youth *Gugak incubating project 〈Blossom of Young Artists〉 supports young Gugak art-

ists to put on their first stage shows so that they can become established artists continu-

ing with their creative efforts and artistic activities. It also unearths and introduces talented

young Gugak artists through an incubating program and concerts.

At the National Jeongdong Theater of Korea, Cecil, a key base for artistic creation, you can

enjoy the scintillating stage completed through the dedication of talented young Gugak artists

and their reflections on ‘tradition’ into various genres such as music, dance, and theater.

Title : Religion

Formed in 2021, the group ‘SINAVI’ comprises members skilled in playing diverse instruments, as well as in composing and arranging music. Using the sound and musical phrasing of Korean traditional instruments as the element,. they blend ambient, rock, and film scoring. SINAVI is a world music team aiming for a dramatic sound by mixing various programming sounds such as ambient and synth sound.

Title : Pasurok - Chronicles Across Time and Space

‘NURUNGJI’ is a creative music team formed by three alumni of the Gugak National High School, specializing in gayageum performance. Their goal is to express the joy and softness of the traditional snack known as “nurungji” through music. They present a rich musical world through diverse compositions and the use of musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) sounds. Additionally, they craft special performances that integrate traditional music with VJ, puppetry, dance, and other contemporary arts, engaging the five senses.

Title : ( ) Perspective Melody : To Look

‘GUIIM’ is a music group composed of jeongga, gayageum, gyeonggi-sori, and piano. The group name was chosen based on the names of the members to avoid restricting their musical direction to a specific word or image. Each member takes the lead in presenting their own music and collaborates to reach a compromise, building a diverse artistic world without being confined to genres or forms.

Title : Chocolate Box

The fusion Korean traditional music duo ‘Oh! New World’ consists of a hegeum player and a gayageum player. They aim to showcase the unique color of ‘Oh! New World,’ representing a new world of Korean traditional music. Following the ideology that “the most universal stories resonate the most,” they create music that can be enchanting in the moment by honestly expressing everyday stories. Their aim is to create performances that foster empathy and communication with a focus on the original tone of traditional instruments together with storytelling.

Title : Imagine painting

‘BOW-DRILLS’ is a team consisting of an ajeng player and a hegeum player, focusing on the unique sound of Korean rubbed string instrument. The ‘BOW DRILL’ is a primitive tool used for igniting fire. The ember is formed only after hundreds of strokes with the bow, requiring considerable time and effort investment. And this whole process reflects that of the Korean rubbed string instrument players. They aim to express the various textures and impressions inherent in Korean rubbed string instrument by incorporating deliberation and a spirit of challenge.

Title : Twenty-four of Twenty-four

‘DAMOT’ is a Korean traditional string ensemble trio consisting of a geomungo, gayageum, and hegeum. They plan to convey the stories of friends sharing their lives through the changing seasons through music and to showcase the culture and scenery of Korea’s 24 solar terms through the resonance of the three string instrument players.

Title : Jangsanbeom: The White Tiger That Could Not Become a God

‘Yeonhee Connect E-eul’ means ‘connecting the legacy of Yeonhee (play),’ founded by performers with over 10 years of experience in each field. They introduce various methods such as music, storytelling, and circus arts to foster the excellence and creativity of traditional creative Yeonhee arts amid the Korean cultural content Hallyu wave in the cultural and artistic industry. Through populism and traditionality, they aim for professional performers to communicate with the public.

‘SOUL’ is a duo dance group of two dancers who firmly believe that just as we study and protect our history, we must also protect traditional cultural arts. They create a unique dance world by expressing the various colors inherent in Korean dance with the souls of two dancers. Their aim is to dance to touch the souls of viewers with their own taste and style.

‘achim_wide and firm’ is a dance group that firmly establishes its own ideology with a fresh perspective and broad thinking. Title : Guryongje: Nine Drangons for Diversity

‘SunB’ is a cultural arts organization that encompasses various traditional art genres and connects the values of traditional culture to modern life and culture through creative ideas. The team name, adopting to ancient pronunciation of the word ‘seonbi’ (scholars during the Goryeo and Joseon periods of Korean history), embodies the goal of spreading the value of traditional arts to the public. They aim to highlight the spirit of seonbi that can revive the value of tradition in the modern era.
