Product Details

To commemorate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the Czech Republic, a special exhibition, , will be held at The Hyundai Seoul ALT.1 from November 8, 2025, to March 4, 2026. This major retrospective brings together 143 masterpieces from the Mucha Trust Collection. The collection includes 18 oil paintings, as well as Mucha's iconic lithographs, drawings, sculptures, jewelry, and personal items. Notably, 11 works designated as Czech National Treasures are included, having received special export approval from the Czech government and the EU through close cooperation with the Czech Embassy in Seoul and the Mucha Trust. Over 70 pieces will be unveiled in Korea for the first time, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore Mucha's artistic world. These include the oil paintings The Light of Hope, Slavia, and the sculpture La Nature. This exhibition was organized in close collaboration with the Mucha Trust, the owner of the collection dedicated to preserving Alphonse Mucha's artistic philosophy and legacy. Alphonse Mucha's grandson and protector of the Mucha Trust, John Mucha, and acting curator Tomoko Sato, were directly involved in the curation. The 18 oil paintings, rarely seen even in Prague, were specially transported from the Czech Republic, offering a rare chance to appreciate the painterly sensibility of an artist often known primarily for his lithographs. The exhibition illuminates the multifaceted journey of Mucha, known as both the "world's greatest decorative artist" and an "apostle of nationalism". The first half focuses on his Paris period, which established him as a master of Art Nouveau, showcasing iconic lithographs like Gismonda, Rêverie, Zodiac, and JOB. The second half shifts to his return to his homeland, the Czech Republic, and his efforts to realize his patriotic ideals. This period culminates in The Slav Epic, a monumental series of twenty paintings depicting the history of the Slavic people. ▶ Exhibition Highlights 1. 11 Czech National Treasures arrive in Korea Marking the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and the Czech Republic, this exhibition presents 11 Czech national treasures designated by the Czech government.
