[Introduction]
Re-membering Performers
I recall the memory of body and body being together. The countless hours spent reading and sensing each other’s signals. The warmth of those times, the fleeting moments beyond doubt, the feelings too full for words get told and retold, until they settle into something we call reminiscence. But moments of misalignment don’t always settle this way. Instead, they stay in our bodies, as shocks, small or large.
Re-membering Performers begins by tracing back the marks left by those shocks. Performers speak of moments when their sense of body went astray, laying out their inner thoughts and guesses of the time. As these stories move from memory of the body to the body “here and now”, they reveal the gap between the “body that is seen” and the "mind that cannot be read.”
The performance, exploring the misalignment between body and body, soon leads to a small distrust of dance, toward uncertainty, toward the unknowable. It returns to bodies that escape expectation, bodies that refuse to be read, relationships that ended in disconnection, and times that will likely never return. Nothing is resolved, but at the very least, it finds its way back, once again, to the bodies that take hold of something in the dancing body.
[Artist | Hoh Sunguk]
Hoh Sunguk is interested in the power of dance to build community. Working from the idea that a certain dance temporarily creates a certain community, he looks toward the many interactions latent between those two “certains.” In a similar vein, his attention turns to the theater and the time of performance.
From there emerges an imagination of dance that ultimately transforms the small community, the theater of the day. Through choreography and artistic practice, he longs to rediscover and tend to the temporalities, corporealities, modes of presence, and relationships marginalized by mainstream society.

[In Conversation with the Festival]
There are moments when we believe that the body communicates more than words can say. Yet we sometimes misread bodies, and some of those misalignments linger deeply within us. Memory of the body brings us back to face the body here and now, leaving new questions inside senses once so familiar.
Re-membering Performers begins with this experience of misreading. Moving between the remembered bodies and the physical presence of the here and now, it confronts the gap between the body that is seen and the mind that cannot be read. Standing before bodies that escape expectation and refuse easy interpretation, dance retraces its memory of the body.
The festival turns toward dances that encounter bodies living through different times. The memory of having misread a body returns us to face bodies shaped by other times. The time we spend alongside bodies experiencing aging and disability, in turn, sheds new light on our own present bodies, compelling us to sit with those times just a little longer.

Scatter, as All Things Entangle
The 2026 Seoul Marginal Theatre Festival imagines encounters between different temporalities. From the margins, we question other movements that reveal cycles and interweavings, and the processes of transformation that oscillate between the defined and the undefined.
