Hans van Manen × Cha Jinyeob
A Double Bill by the Seoul Metropolitan Ballet

The Seoul Metropolitan Ballet Presents Hans van Manen’s Quintessential Style
Hans van Manen, considered a legend of contemporary dance, is the choreographer who positioned the once-obscure Dutch dance scene at the center of the global scene, and also known as the “Mondrian of Dance”. The Seoul Metropolitan Ballet presents the Asian Premiere of Kammerballett, the signature work of Hans van Manen.
Kammerballett, as performed by the Seoul Metropolitan Ballet represents the essence of Van Manen’s style—a subtle synthesis of the sensitive yet sophisticated colors of his costumes and lighting, motion that is at once vivid and restrained, and the rhythm pervading his gentle and solemn melodies.
Particularly exciting aspects of this production are the appearance of ballerina Kim Ji-young, who performed Kammerballett while she was a dancer of the Dutch National Ballet, and the recording music of pianist Kim Tae-Hyung, who has excellent balance and interpretation, will complete the stage.

Boundary-Breaking Choreographer Cha Jinyeob Stages Time Immemorial
Cha Jinyeob, a choreographer who is writing a new chapter in art by breaking down the boundaries between genres through fearless expression and boundless imagination, presents her new piece Ritardscendo in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Ballet. The theme chosen for this piece is water, a symbol of time immemorial, and the beginning of the dance of life. The beauty of bodies swimming through the restless depths undergirds this underwater performance that is grounded in contemporary ballet.
