By winning 6 straight weeks in a huge-hit TV program “I am the singer”, she proved herself to be one of the best singers in Korea. With her unique voice which is sharp as a razor but also tender at the same time, her songs such as ‘Short sky’, ‘Late night in 1994’, ‘Beautiful days’, and ‘Him and her’ are ranked at the top of K-pop charts and called as ‘classic of K-pop’.
This November 21th, she is going to try a new challenge by collaborating with rising French crossover tenor Amaury Vassili and a free spirit pianist Ka On Kim.
Her songs have their own Korean sensibility, and she was able to establish a more solid music style while studying at Berklee College of Music. She is once again trying to broaden her musical boundary by performing with Amaury Vassili. Her endless attempt to try new styles of music is the motivation that made her the top vocalist.

그런 그녀가, 오는 11월 21일 새롭게 떠오르는 프랑스 크로스오버 테너 ‘아모리 바실리’와 자유로운 영혼을 가진 마성의 재즈피아니스트 김가온을 만나 협연을 통해 새로운 시도이자 도전을 감행할 예정이다.
가수 장혜진의 노래는 그녀만의 특유한 한국적 아름다운 감성을 지니고 있으며, 미국 버클리 음대 유학에서 더욱 탄탄한 음악세계를 구축할 수 있게 되었다. 그리고 이번에는 크로스오버 테너 아모리 바실리와의 협연으로 또 다시 새로운 시도를 통해 자신의 음악적 폭을 넓히려 하고 있다.

The promising Crossover Tenor ‘Amaury Vassili’

Amaury Vassili, one of the most popular crossover tenors in Europe, captured not only European women but also the entire classic music scene with his powerful and mature voice.
Grew up being inspired by Operas, Orchestras, also Michael Jackson, Jacques Brel and reggae music, he has a very flexible musicality. The flexibility is the source of his energy to modernly arrange classics to pop.
Especially, in his new album <Una Parte Di Me>, he showed up his musical maturation by writing his own lyrics to songs of Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Brahms and many others.
Amaury Vassili was born in Rouen, France in 1989. At the age of 9, he started going to a music school by his mother’s suggestion who noticed his musical talent. Through participating in various competitions, he fascinated the musical world by winning the France Chanson Cup. After, the France’s most powerful producer Daniel Moyne picked him out, and he finally signed a contract with Warner Music France in 2009 to make his debut.
His first and second album <Vincero> and <Cantero>, filled with his outstanding vocal and expressions, swept French album charts and recorded double platinum.
As well as concerts, he also actively appeared in TV programs and successfully finished his world tour which included France, UK, Canada, Russia and Finland. Especially, in South Africa, his album unprecedentedly marked 100,000 copies in sales and broke the sales records of non-English pop album.
He took part in Eurovision Song Contest representing France and the show reached more than 100 million views worldwide. The song he played in Eurovision <Sognu> won the best composition award for the first time in France.
With his principle to always do the best, he has no hesitation in singing live at all. He says that the bigger the stage and the audience is, his enthusiasm gets greater. He received a standing ovation from over 6,000 audiences after performing with the best soprano singer Katherine Jenkins at O2 arena in London, and he also mesmerized 25,000 people with his romantic vocal and gentle stage manners in his concert held in Bercy, Paris
Amaury Vassili said in an interview with a local press that he enjoys using Korean electronics and wants to meet Korean audiences as soon as possible. He is showing his affection for Korea by consistently communicating with Korean fans through twitter and facebook.

현재 유럽에서 가장 인기 있는 프랑스의 크로스오버 테너 가수 아모리 바실리는 23살이라고는 믿을 수 없는 성숙하고 힘찬 목소리와 아름다운 외모는 전 유럽의 여성은 물론 클래식 음악계를 사로잡았다.
오페라와 오케스트라 연주에 영향을 받으며 자람과 동시에 마이클 잭슨, 샹송 가수 자크 브렐, 레게 음악 전반 등 많은 음악 장르로부터 영향을 받은 아모리 바실리의 음악성은 매우 유연하다. 그 유연함은 곧 클래식을 현대적으로 편곡하여 팝 음악으로 승화시키는 에너지의 원천이기도 하다.
특히 지난해 발매한 최신작 <Una Parte Di Me>는 차이코프스키, 모차르트, 브람스 등의 유명 클래식 음악가의 작품에 자신이 직접 가사를 붙인 곡들을 담아 음악적으로 한층 성숙해진 면모를 과시했다.
아모리 바실리는 1989년 프랑스 루앙 출생으로, 9살 무렵부터 그의 천재성을 눈치 챈 어머니의 제안으로 음악학교에 다니기 시작했다. 이후 프랑스 각지에서 열린 다양한 음악 콩쿠르에 참가하여 경험을 축적한 그는 15세이던 2004년 프랑스 샹송컵에서 우승하며 수많은 음악 관계자를 매료시켰고, 프랑스 방송계의 거물 프로듀서인 다니엘 모인(Daniel Moyne)에게 발탁되어 2009년 워너뮤직 프랑스와 계약, 데뷔하기에 이른다.
2009년 앨범 <Vincero>로 데뷔하여 이듬해에 2집 <Cantero>를 발매하는데, 신인이면서도 발군의 가창력과 표현력을 가진 두 앨범은 프랑스 앨범 차트를 휩쓸며 모두 더블 플래티넘을 기록했다.
콘서트는 물론 TV 출연에도 적극적으로 참여해, 자국 프랑스를 넘어 영국, 캐나다, 러시아, 핀란드 등지에서의 공연을 포함한 월드투어도 성공시켰다. 특히 남아프리카에서 발매된 그의 앨범은 이례적으로 10만장 이상의 판매고를 기록, 영어 이외의 언어로 부른 팝 앨범 판매 기록을 갈아치우는 쾌거를 이룬다.
2011년에는 그룹 아바와 셀린 디온을 배출한 것으로도 유명한 유로비전 송 콘테스트에 프랑스 대표로 출연, 전 세계 1억명 이상의 시청률을 기록한다. 아모리 바실리가 유로비전에서 공연한 <Sognu>은 프랑스 사상 최초로 최우수 작곡상을 받기도 했다.
항상 최선을 다해 노래할 것을 신념으로 삼고 있는 아모리 바실리는 라이브에 대해 일말의 주저함이 없다. 공연장이 크면 클수록, 또 청중이 많으면 많을수록 노래에 대한 열의는 높아진다고 그는 말한다. 런던을 대표하는 대형 아레나 O2(마이클 잭슨이 마지막 투어 공연을 열 예정이었던 곳)에서 세계 최고의 소프라노 가수 캐서린 젠킨스와 공연한 뒤에는 6,000명이 넘는 관객으로부터 기립박수를 받았으며, 지난해 파리 벨시에서 열린 콘서트에서는 특유의 건강하고 로맨틱한 목소리와 젠틀한 무대 매너로 25,000명의 청중을 매료시킨바 있다.
아모리 바실리는 국내 한 언론사와의 인터뷰에서 한국 전자 제품을 즐겨 사용한다며 한국 관객과 빨리 만나고 싶다는 바람을 전하기도 했다. 최근에는 젊은 세대답게 트위터, 페이스북 등 SNS를 통해 한국 팬들과 지속적으로 소통하며 한국에 대한 애정을 드러내고 있다.

Good-looking face. Handsomely tall. Won Schubert Concours in 2002, third prize in Donga Concours in 2007, third prize in Osaka International Music Competition in 2009 and many others. With this astonishing profile, he graduated Seoul Arts High school with honors and finished bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree at Seoul National University. Now, he is pursuing a doctoral degree. A challenging and adventurous baritone prospect, who could not be satisfied as a vocalist, chose to be a crossover singer to create his own style of music. He started raising his popularity by releasing his debut single “Incomplete” in April 2008. He also sang theme songs for dramas, appeared in TV shows and doing remarkable activities as a cast of musicals such as <Dracula> and <Marie Antoinette>. He is going to perform a wonderful duet with Amaury Vassili, who appeared as a guest in his own radio show.

잘생긴 얼굴. 182cm의 훤칠한 키. 2002년 슈베르트콩쿨 입상. 2007년 동아콩쿨 성악부문 3위. 2009년 오사카 국제콩쿨 3위 등 다수의 콩쿨에서 입상. 놀라운 프로필을 가진 카이는 어린 시절부터 일찍이 재능을 보였다. 뿐만 아니라 서울예술고등학교를 수석졸업하고 서울대학교 성악과에서 학사와 석사를 수료, 현재는 박사과정 중인 엘리트이기도 하다.
성악가의 길로는 만족할 수 없었던 도전적이고 진취적인 바리톤 유망주는, 자신만의 색깔을 창조할 수 있는 음악을 하기 위해 크로스오버 가수의 길을 택했다.
지난 2008년 4월, 데뷔 싱글 ‘미완’ 발표를 시작으로 드라마의 메인 테마곡, TV출연 등을 하며 인지도를 쌓았고 뮤지컬 ‘드라큘라’, ‘마리 앙투아네트’ 등에 출연하며 큰 활약을 하고 있다.

An emotional pianist who attracts audiences into the music

Ka On Kim studied composition theory in Seoul National University, Jazz in New York University and started to gain popularity as the pianist of Malo Band.
Being interested in improvisation since he was young, he devoted himself to jazz and studied at Berklee College of Music. After actively performing in New York, he came back to Korea in 2008 and now is making remarkable achievements.
He worked in numerous jazz clubs including Malo Band, Sun Ju Park Band and Su Plus. His first album ‘Un/Like the other day’ released in 2009, gave a strong impression to Korean musical world and was covered in many TV programs and concerts.
He showed various styles of music in his second album ‘Prismatic’. He designed the Jazz Concert Series ‘Wednesday Jazz’ by himself and successfully performed at Seoul Arts Center in 2011. Through this, he received reviews saying that he played a role as the bridge to introduce jazz not only to jazz fans, but also general public.
His new album coming out this November, is already getting much expectation to present his thrill of soon becoming a father with his own unique color. His fans say that his music is ‘healing’. On the other hand, an eminent pianist Kenny Werner described him as “an energetic and bright performer who knows exactly how to play with pleasure”. He is indeed a magical jazz pianist whose music has a style that comfort and freedom coexists.

서울대학교에서 작곡이론을 전공하고 버클리 음대와 뉴욕대에서 재즈를 공부하고 말로 밴드의 피아니스트로 이름을 알리기 시작했다.
어린 시절부터 가진 즉흥연주에 대한 호기심을 시작으로, 재즈라는 음악에 투신한 그는 버클리 음대에서 재즈를 배우고 뉴욕에서 활발한 연주활동을 하였다. 2008년 귀국하여 한국 재즈씬에서 눈부신 활약을 하고 있다.
한국의 유수한 재즈 클럽과 말로밴드, 박선주밴드, 수플러스 등 여러 장르의 밴드활동을 하였고, 2009년 1집 앨범 ‘Un/Like the other day’를 발표한다. 이 앨범으로 한국 음악계에 강렬한 인상을 심어주며 네이버 ‘이주의 앨범’에 선정되고 각종 방송과 공연에서 다루어졌다.
2집 ‘Prismatic’에서는 그가 가지고 있는 여러 음악들을 선보였다. 2011년에 예술의 전당에서 재즈 콘서트 시리즈 ‘Wednesday Jazz’를 기획하고 성공적으로 공연하며 재즈 팬 뿐만 아니라 일반 관객들에게도 재즈를 전달하는 가교 역할을 했다는 평을 받았다.
2014년 11월에 발매될 새로운 정규앨범은 한 아이의 아빠가 될 그의 설레는 마음을 독특한 색채로 담아낼 것이라는 기대를 모으고 있다. 그의 음악을 사랑하는 많은 팬들은 그의 음악이 ‘치유의 음악’이라고 말한다. 반면, 저명한 피아니스트 케니 워너는 그를 “대단한 에너지를 가지고 있고 매우 총명하여 어떻게 연주해야 즐거워지는지 아는 연주자”라고 평했다. 이처럼 편안함 속에 자유분방함이 공존하는 음악세계를 가진 그는 한번 연주를 들으면 쉽게 헤어나올 수 없게 하는 마성의 재즈피아니스트라 할 수 있겠다.
