Company Wayne McGregor ＂Atomos＂

England’s most representative choreographer, who speculates through the body and establishes an experimental and progressive artistic world based on insights gained from science and advanced technology, Wayne McGregor returns to Korea in 12 years. Since his appointment as the Resident Choreographer of the British Royal Ballet in 2006, he created works for world’s top class ballet and dance companies, including Paris Opera Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, New York City Ballet, and Nederlands Dans Theater. He also directed the movements for films like “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and “The Legend of Tarzan”. Moreover, he choreographed the movements for music videos of world-famous musicians like the rock band ‘Radiohead’ and electronic band ‘The Chemical Brothers’. As such, he has extended his ingenious creativity throughout diverse artistic genres. McGregor is currently considered as the creative engine of British contemporary art, running his own ‘Wayne McGregor Studio’, where he realizes his comprehensive artistic endeavors in collaboration with a number of artists from disciplines of not only dance but also music, visual art, and technology.
This time he will present “Atomos”(2013), one of his representative works that best expresses his artistry. For this show enjoyed with 3D glasses, a leading ambient music artist, ‘A Winged Victory for the Sullen’ directed the music and ‘Studio XO’, a forerunner of wearable technology combining fashion and technology, designed costumes adapted to the biometric data of each dancer. Just like the movements of atoms, the exquisite and eloquent movements of the dancers are harmonized with video and lighting, creating an utmost beauty on stage that leads the audience to a synesthetic experience. Through “Atomos”, you will be able to meet a new art form of the 21st century that integrates dance with music, science, and philosophy through a cutting-edge style.
