시민권, 영주권 그런게 다 무슨 소용입니까?
이미 죽었는데. 한국 사람입니다.”

?처녀귀신 코미디 쇼?는 아시아 디아스포라이자 여성으로서 캐나다에 살고 있는 이들 의 이야기를 다루며 관객들에게 질문을 던진다. ‘서구권 국가에서 아시아 여성의 몸을 가 진다는 것은 어떻게 위험이 되는가?육체가 사라진 뒤 우리는 폭력으로부터 해방될 수 있을까?그리고 그 해방 속에는 어떤 코미디가 존재할 수 있을까??는 조금은 독특하고 유머러스한 상상력을 통해 사후 세계의 규칙과 현실의 부조리를 교차시키며, 여성, 디아스포라, 그리고 삶과 죽음을 비틀어 바라보는 블랙 코미디 공연이다.
explores the lives of Asian diaspora women living in Canada and poses questions to its audience: How does “having an Asian woman?s body” put you at risk? Can we be liberated from violence when we no longer have bodies? Is there a comedy that exists within this liberation? Through a distinctive and darkly humorous imagination, Dead Korean Girl Comedy Show weaves together the rules of the afterlife with the absurdities of the real world, offering a black comedy that twists perspectives on women, diaspora, and life and death.

[시놉시스 Synopsis]
배경은 캐나다 토론토 퀸즈파크의 한 건설 현장. 술에 취한 한국계 캐나다인 여성 두 명 이 실수로 구덩이에 빠져 죽는다. 갑작스레 처녀귀신이 되어버린 두 인물 앞에 캐나다의 사후 세계 공무원과 한국의 저승사자가 나타나고, 이들의 운명을 두고 황당한 협상과 회 유가 시작된다. 두 인물은 퀸스파크와 캐나다의 국회의사당 같은 기묘한 공간들 사이에 서 자신들이 처한 연옥과도 같은 상태를 마주한다. 이들은 사후 세계의 규칙을 이해하려 노력도 해보지만, 이내 그 과정에서 드러나는 현실 세계의 부조리를 거름망 없이 쏟아낸다.
The story begins at a construction site in Queen?s Park, Toronto,Canada. Two Korean-Canadian women, drunk, died after accidentally falling into a pit. They now have their ghost-selves to ponder the purgatory in bizarre spaces like Queen?s Park and Parliament Hill. Meanwhile, the fate of the two ghosts are being negotiated between The Canadian Bureau and the Korean Reaper. As the two ghosts try to make sense of the rules of the afterlife, they begin to confront?and bluntly spill out?the contradictions and absurdities of the world they once lived in.

[아티스트 소개 About Artists]
에밀리 정 Emily Jung
에밀리 정은 노동과 휴식, 다언어 예술, 소셜미디어, 유령학(hauntology), 에코 드라마터지 등을 주제로 작업하는 한국계 캐나다 예술가이자 예술 기획자이다. 2023년 rice & beans theatre의 Polyphonic Theatre 레지던시에 참여했다. Amanda Lin의 작품 Between a Wok and a Hot Pot(Cahoots Theatre*제작)으로 도라 어워즈 프로 젝션 및 무대디자인 부문을 공동 수상했으며, 2024년 Mayworks Festival of Labour and the Arts에서 Artist Award for Excellence in the Labour Movement를 공동 수상했다. 에세이 「Korean Seniors Don?t Care for Bingo」는 Choa Magazine에 게재되었으며, 현재 The Theatre Centre에서 커뮤니케이션 디렉터로 일하고 있다.
Emily Jung is a Korean-Canadian artist and arts worker working with themes around labour (and rest), multilingual arts, social media, hauntology, and eco-dramaturgy. She was an artist in rice & beans theatre?s Polyphonic Theatre residency in 2023. She is a co-recipient of Dora Awards in Projection and Scenic Design (for projections in Amanda Lin?s Between a Wok and a Hot Pot, produced by Cahoots Theatre), and a co-recipient of the 2024 Artist Award for Excellence in the Labour Movement at the Mayworks Festival of Labour and the Arts. Her essay, Korean Seniors Don?t Care for Bingo, is available online at Choa Magazine. She works at The Theatre Centre as Director of Communications.

제니퍼 박 Jennifer Park
제니퍼 박은 한국계 캐나다 작가로, 영화제 프로그래밍, 아동 애니메이션 제작, 한영 번역 등 다양한 분야에서 활동해왔다. 2023년 rice & beans theatre의 polyphonic Theatre 레지던시에 협력 아티스트로 참여했다. 단편집 Close The Door When You Leave는 토론토대학교 미시소거 캠퍼스 Professional Writing 프로그램의 Rattlesnake Press를 통해 출간되었다.
Jennifer Park (Co-Writer) is a Korean-Canadian writer, with experience in film festival programming, children?s animation production, and Korean-English translation. She attended rice & beans theatre?s Polyphonic Theatre residency in 2023 as a collaborator. Her collection of short stories was published via Rattlesnake Press at University of Toronto Mississauga?s Professional Writing program.

바람 컴퍼니는 극장과 극장 밖 공공공간에서 관객에게 새로운 주제와 존재를 접하게 하 는 공연들을 만들며 작업해왔다. 연극은 바람 컴퍼니에게 아고라의 역할을 하며 삶과 사 회에 대한 다양한 질문들을 제시할 수 있는 장이 되어왔다. 기후 변화, 동물권, 주거, 여 성의 몸, 소수자의 위치 등 일상의 경험으로부터 질문을 던지며 함께 대화하고 토론할 수 있는 공연을 만든다.
Baram Company has created performances both in theatres and in public spaces outside the theatre that introduce audiences to new themes and presences. For Baram Company, theatre functions as an agora?a place where diverse questions about life and society can be raised and shared. Drawing from everyday experiences, the company creates performances that invite audiences to engage in dialogue and reflection on issues such as climate change, animal rights, housing, women?s bodies, and the position of minorities.
