Wonju Gorilla Hotel

I recently visited on a business trip with a teammate and it was clean. Both rooms were fine. There were very strict notices about smoking, so there was no smell. The bedding was clean and the staff response was good.

A strong ammonia smell kept coming up, and if you eat on the first floor the odors are overwhelming. They don’t provide toiletries — not even soap. If they only give disposable items, they should at least inform guests. The front desk bell rings but no one comes; they finish a phone call and then appear. I witnessed the height of unfriendliness. This is the worst hotel I have seen while traveling on business around the country.

My first time at an accommodation in Wonju: 1. It was a non-smoking room but the cigarette smell was very strong. 2. No hot water. 3. The refrigerator was not cold at all. The comfort was good, but cleanliness and the overall condition were quite different from the photos, so it was pretty disappointing.

1. Service - I had to go to Wonju on a business trip. After arriving at Wonju Terminal I booked accommodation through Yanolja and went to the desk to check in, but a scary-looking man at the desk was extremely unfriendly and said in a brusque voice that there was no reservation. I showed him the Yanolja reservation confirmation screen on my phone, but he wouldn’t even look and insisted there was no reservation. After a long back-and-forth, I suggested he check messages in case the reservation confirmation came by message, and sure enough it had arrived by message. Then he started saying things like Yanolja has a main company and subsidiaries and that reservations made through a subsidiary often don’t go through. As a customer I had no idea what he was even saying. Not a single apology. I was exhausted from business work and didn’t want to argue, so I just took the key and checked in. 3. Cleanliness - In short, do not go here. It is extremely dirty. - I worked late, took a shower, and fell asleep exhausted, but woke up in the early morning with a very sore throat. I wasn’t cold or hot... When the sun rose and sunlight came into the room I realized why. Dust that had not been visible at night was floating all over the room in the morning sun. White dust was all over my clothes and the bedding. I normally would not do this, but I started inspecting every corner of the room. Indeed, dust that had not been properly cleaned was piled up here and there in the corners. Do not be fooled by the clean exterior and go inside. It has been two days since I returned from the business trip and I still have a sore throat from what looks like a throat infection. Friendliness and cleanliness: zero points!!! Do not ever stay at this place.

I was going to say I would extend my stay and come down later, but the call was abruptly cut off. They called back and asked why I wasn't coming down, asking "You didn't hang up the phone?" The conversation went on, so I went down to talk, and one of the two people at the counter, the older one, yelled at me and swore;; I went to play games in a good mood but I will never go again. Also, one of the three bottles of water had its cap already opened.
