Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond

Once the royal palace for the crown prince and a venue for banquets and receptions, this site was long known as “Anapji.” However, excavations revealed its original name—Wolji, meaning “Pond of the Moon”—and that it was part of the Donggung Palace complex. Today, it’s one of Gyeongju’s most iconic nightscapes. As the sun sets, soft lighting transforms the area into a dreamy, golden-lit reflection on the water—an unforgettable view for night-time visitors.
