What is Sunghyun’s absolute favorite food? And if Juhoon were given a day to spend with friends, what would they eat? The answer is—🐷 Samgyeopsal (Grilled Pork Belly) 🐷! Samgyeopsal is the ultimate soul food for Koreans and one of the most iconic dishes. For all our CORE out there, we highly recommend trying Samgyeopsal at least once if you're coming to Korea.
CORTIS
🥓🥬 Samgyeopsal Mukbang (먹방) Tips
Samgyeopsal tastes so much better when you start putting adding different ingredients. We’ve gathered some secret recipes from CORTIS! Follow their lead, you’ll double the flavor and the fun of your meal.
STEP 1. Make your own SSAM (Wrap)
Making a "Ssam"—wrapping your meat and various side dishes in lettuce or perilla leaves—is the ultimate way to eat Samgyeopsal. In fact, the CORTIS members confidently introduced this technique to fellow artist Teezo! 💡 CORTIS Pick: Samgyeopsal + ssamjang (a savory soybean paste sauce) + garlic + a bit of rice. As you add more ingredients, your wrap might get pretty huge, but just like Martin, it’s best to eat it in one big bite! That’s the secret to getting the richest explosion of flavor.
STEP 2. Grill Kimchi in the Pork Fat
Samgyeopsal X Kimchi—two foods that are delicious on their own, but even better together! When Kimchi is grilled in savory Samgyeopsal oil, the flavor becomes incredibly rich. Grilling also mellows out the spiciness, making it a great option even for those who aren't big fans of spicy food. Just place the Kimchi on the grill alongside the pork and cook it thoroughly.
STEP 3. Order a Stew
When eating Samgyeopsal, you have to try it with Doenjang-jjigae (Soybean Paste Stew) or Kimchi-jjigae (Kimchi Stew). If the meal starts to feel a bit heavy, the savory stew perfectly refreshes your palate! 💡 Martin’s Pick: Enjoy your meat and Doenjang-jjigae together for the ultimate combo. 💡 Juhoon’s Pick: Ladle some Kimchi-jjigae over your rice and mix it all up!
STEP 4. Yukhoe is Optional, Fried Rice is a Must!
Koreans love finishing their meal with Bokkeumbap (Fried Rice). It’s so iconic that there’s even a meme calling it "the Korean dessert." The CORTIS members made sure to enjoy every last bit of that perfectly glazed, savory fried rice! 💡 Yukhoe (Beef Tartare): Made from fresh raw beef, this dish is much lighter than grilled meat and is often enjoyed as a refreshing appetizer. 💡 Chadol-bagi (Thinly Sliced Brisket): Since this cut is even fattier than samgyeopsal, it’s usually best to save it for later in the meal.
STEP 5. Finish with Ice Cream from Convenience Stores🍦
After feasting on hot, savory Samgyeopsal, nothing hits the spot like something cold and sweet. The members wrapped up their mukbang by grabbing some ice cream from a nearby convenience store. 💡 Martin’s Pick: Bungeo-ssamanko! It’s a classic Korean treat—a fish-shaped wafer shell filled with creamy vanilla ice cream and sweet red bean.
🥓 K-BBQ Spots & Items
CORTIS X Samgyeopsal 🐽
From the specific Samgyeopsal spots CORTIS visited to James’ unique and quirky picks—we’ve gathered everything that shows just how much CORTIS loves their K-BBQ! ❤️
🍴 Local K-BBQ Spot from the MV: Daeseong Sikdang
Do you remember the original MV for their 100% self-produced debut track, <What you want>? The video features the raw, authentic charm of Seoul’s neighborhood alleys. The first Samgyeopsal spot we recommend is Daeseong Sikdang, which you can see right behind Juhoon in the MV! This is also where the members shared a meal with artist Teezo. Since it operates as both a butcher shop and a restaurant, the meat quality is top-tier. Fun fact: this place is also a favorite haunt of G-Dragon!
🎂 Sunghyun’s Birthday Party: Jika Master
CORTIS is back at it again in their YouTube content—eating Samgyeopsal! This time, the members headed to Jika Master, a BBQ restaurant near the HYBE building, to celebrate Sunghyun’s birthday. Just look at that brotherly love—grilling the meat to golden perfection and even hand-feeding Sunghyun the perfect "ssam"...♥︎
🛍️ James’ Samgyeopsal Item: Phone Case
Is that a Samgyeopsal item in James' selfie? If you look closely at the picture, there’s a Samgyeopsal shaped Griptok attached to a lettuce pattern smartphone case! 😝 We tracked down its brand, and it was 'Dawntown,' a small Korean phone accessory brand. If you're a CORE who loves Korean Samgyeopsal, this would make a great souvenir! 📍Instagram: @dawntown.kr
